• Entry-Level Starting: $53,478.46

  Certified Starting:

  • Candidates with 2 or more years as an Illinois peace officer and who are currently employed as a full-time Illinois certified peace officer may be eligible for an increased starting salary, up to $70,366.40/year
  • Hiring bonus of up to $5,000
  • Candidates who are certified as an Illinois peace officer but do not meet the above requirements may be eligible for a starting salary of $57,418.98/year.

The Rock Falls Police Department is a full-time, full-service department responsible for providing law enforcement and public safety services to the citizens and visitors of the City of Rock Falls, population 8,800, located in NW Illinois. Patrol Officers work 12-hour rotating shifts with every other weekend off. The Rock Falls Police Department has an authorized force of 22 officers and currently employs three non-sworn civilian clerical and records staff.

To be eligible to apply to be a Police Officer in the City or Rock Falls, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Minimum of 20.5 years of age, maximum of 35 years of age* (*unless prior law enforcement or military)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid driver's license
• Able to pass a background investigation and other pre-employment screenings.
• Able to pass physical fitness standards for entry into basic police academy (Illinois POWER test)

PLEASE NOTE: The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is not requiring candidates to take the POWER Test (physical fitness) as part of the examination process. However, candidates who are required to attend basic law enforcement academy will be required to meet the requirements and pass the test prior to admission into the academy.
