Position Details

The Wood Dale Fire Protection is hiring for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.

There are 2 immediate vacancies.

Candidates are required to complete the NTN FireTeam exam, PSSA & PHQ by the application deadline of March 15th, 2024. The first round of applications will be processed on March 15th, 2024, but candidates are welcome to continue applying after that date for future lists to fit the District's needs.

Department Overview:

The Wood Dale Fire Protection District employs 26 full-time sworn personnel and one full-time Administrative Assistant. We have 1 Fire Chief, 1 Deputy Chief, 3 Battalion Chiefs, 3 Lieutenants, and 18 firefighters covering 3 shifts working 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off duty. The Fire District operates out of two firehouses and answers approximately 2,500 calls for service each year, with 70% of our calls being EMS related. We are a proud member of MABAS Division 12, and equally proud of our ISO Class 2/2Y rating.

Being a smaller department allows our members an opportunity to be more involved in the day-to-day operations. Our members are encouraged and empowered to have extra duties beyond being a Firefighter/Paramedic.

We are an all-hazard department that embraces a culture that encourages training and personal & professional development. Our comprehensive training program assures that our members stay proficient at their current positions, while also being prepared for future promotions. We are part of a training cooperative that includes 3 neighboring departments, which allows us to conduct monthly auto aid drills. This training model has proven effective on emergency scenes, with seamless multi-jurisdictional operations. Over 80% of our members are active on a specialty team, which includes Technical Rescue, Water Rescue, Hazardous Materials, or Fire Investigation Task Force.

Area Information:

The Wood Dale Fire Protection District covers approximately 6 square miles in northeast DuPage County near O'Hare International Airport. Our Fire District is comprised of a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial. Most of our area is single family residential with a commercial corridor that runs through the center of town. We cover 10 residential high-rises with the tallest being 16 stories, and one upscale assisted living facility. The north side of our district is mostly industrial and adjoins a large Cook County industrial park. We also cover portions of the I-390 Expressway and a large unincorporated area. This gives our department a well-rounded call volume, without the repeat locations requiring a high volume of calls.
