The Fox Lake Police Department is currently hiring for the position of Police Officer!

Candidates are required to complete National Testing Network's Frontline National exam, Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) by March 10, 2024 to be considered for the position.

THE PERSONAL HISTORY QUESTIONNAIRE (PHQ) IS CONSIDERED YOUR APPLICATION FOR THIS POSITION.  AS SUCH, IT MUST BE COMPLETED IN ORDER FOR YOU TO BE CONSIDERED AS AN APPLICANT FOR THIS POSITION.  YOU MUST COMPLETE THE PHQ IN ITS ENTIRETY AND SUBMIT IT PRIOR TO THE MARCH 10, 2024, DEADLINE, OR YOU WILL NOT PROGRESS TO THE NEXT STEP IN THE HIRING PROCESS.  PARTIALLY COMPLETED PHQ’S WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

Our previous list has been exhausted, and there are 5 open positions available during this testing phase.

We anticipate to tentatively conduct oral interviews on March 16th, 2024. 

Hiring Process:

Each phase of the process is pass/fail and required to proceed to the next.

• Completion of Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and submit required documents no later than 5:00 PM March 10th, 2024.
• Completion of FrontLine National Exam and Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) through National Testing Network (www.nationaltestingnetwork.com) by 5:00 PM, March 10th, 2024. • Establish a preliminary list based on score of initial test
• Oral Interview with Civil Service Commission – eligible applicants will be contacted with specific date / time information – Tentatively, March 16th, 2024
• Staff Interview / Comprehensive
• Background Investigation to include polygraph examination
• Post-offer examinations / screenings include but are not limited to: psychological evaluation; medical / vision examinations; and drug screen.

Completion of the FrontLine National Examination and/or Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) is not a guarantee of eligibility to continue in the testing process. Candidates may be disqualified after completion of the test or submission of (PHQ) for reasons including but not limited to:

• failure to complete testing / (PHQ) submission by the required deadline
• not meeting minimum position qualifications
• not meeting minimum passing standards for the examination
• missing or incomplete documents
• or other statutory disqualifying factors related to Police Officer candidacy or employment 

Illinois Police Academy Entrance:

All entry level applicants must meet all the required qualifications, mandated by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB), in order to participate in the academy training, to include; successfully passing the Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test.

Department Overview:

The Village of Fox Lake is a growing community mixed with full time residential and vacation homes.  Although our year round population is approximately 10,978, our summertime recreation population can grow up to 30,000 residents.

The Fox Lake Police Department is authorized for 30 sworn Officers, plus support staff. The Fox Lake Police Department participates in ILEAS, NIPAS, Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG) and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT).

Village Information:

The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system.

Job Requirements:

• Age: Between the age of 21 and 35 at the time of appointment, unless otherwise exempt.
• Citizenship Required: Yes and/or alien admitted for permanent residency
• High School Grad/GED: Yes
• Valid ILLINOIS Driver's License: Yes – Illinois Class D, or other state equivalent
• Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
• College: Preference points
• Academy Certification: Must successfully complete academy training assigned after employment
• Necessary Certifications: High School Diploma
