The Assistant Director of CPD will report to the Director of the Administrative Support Division.

Under direction, the class is managerial in nature, directing operations and providing administrative oversight to the Police Department's Administrative Support Division; and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Direct sworn and non-sworn management personnel responsible for overseeing the division's criminal records management, fingerprint identification, warrants processing, gun registration, subpoena processing, and related police records processing functions.
• Leads and directs management-level staff in developing new or revising existing program operations designed to improve or expand departmental services.
• Coordinates and directs the work efforts toward researching new technologies, reviewing performance against goals and objectives, and evaluating programs for deficiencies and accomplishments.
• Coordinates work efforts with management in developing strategic plans and implementing changes in staffing, operating procedures, and work processes designed to improve the administration of programs, increase operational efficiencies and accomplishments.
• Train personnel on procedures and areas of responsibility, including knowledge of new and existing laws, requirements, and practices of modern police administration.
• Oversee and ensure accurate reporting, record processing, and filing systems, including mandated state reports, and records such as incidents, arrests, traffic crash reports, etc.
• Monitor and maintain various computer software and hardware utilized by the department.
• Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution when required.
• Department's LEADs Agency Coordinator (LAC) in the preparation of LEADs entries, validations and other duties.
• Performs a variety of complex duties such as analyzing, coding, and storing designated law enforcement documents, collecting, and preparing data for special reports, and compiling, reviewing, and redacting various records (such as video and audio recordings) for distribution.
• Additional duties may be required for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a field related to the duties performed, including five (5) years of work experience related to the position, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
• 4 years of supervisory experience
• 10 years of Law enforcement experience
• Master Degree 

VETERANS PREFERENCE NOTE:

The City of Chicago offers Veterans Preference to both current, active military personnel AND military personnel who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received an honorable or general discharge. Eligible candidates must have at least six months of active duty documented.

Failure to answer the question and attach the required documentation will result in you not being considered for the Veterans Preference.
