Northbrook Firefighter Minimum Requirements:

U.S. citizen or meet the requirements of the Illinois Human Rights Act for citizenship status.
Must be 20 years and 6 months and, except as otherwise provided by law, be under 35 years of age at date of examination. Must be 21 years of age at time of hire.
Valid driver’s license.
High school diploma or equivalent.
One of the following:

o Associate’s degree or at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college/university (copy of official certified transcripts due at application deadline).
o State of Illinois licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (IDPH EMT-P).
o State of Illinois licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (IDPH EMTB) AND Illinois Officer of the State Fire Marshal Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter certification.

Vision correctable to 20/40, normal peripheral vision and able to distinguish colors.
Valid CPAT and Ladder Climb Certifications by time of conditional offer of employment.

Winnetka Firefighter Minimum Requirements:

Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States at date of hire.
Must have passed 21st birthday and, except as otherwise provided by law, be under 35 years of age at date of examination. The maximum age does not apply to anyone who has previously been employed as a firefighter or who has turned 35 while serving as a member of the Military with honorable service under age 40.
Valid driver’s license.
High school diploma or equivalent
Far vision correctable to 20/40, normal peripheral vision and able to distinguish colors.
Valid CPAT and Ladder Climb Certifications within 6 months prior to test.

Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination currently scheduled for:

Specific testing details will be provided to eligible candidates prior to the exam date. All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and successfully complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
