Position Details

Somonauk Police Department

Certified Police Officer: Full-Time and Part-Time positions available

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be US Citizen
• Must be 21 years of age
• Must be an Illinois Certified Police Officer and eligible for a waiver from ILETSB
• Must be employed within the last 5 years and must be in good standing with or recently separated from a municipal, county, state or other law enforcement agency, no negative work history, must be in good standing
• No felony or other criminal convictions, no Order of Protections or Domestic Violence
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Illinois FOID Card
• Valid Illinois DL with good driving record
• Applicants may be requested to submit to further testing requirements, Medical Exam and Drug Test

Full-Time Sworn Certified Police Officer:

Residency requirement within 30 miles

Part-Time Sworn Certified Police Officer:

All part-time officers are required to work a minimum of 16 hours per month

Residency requirement within 30 miles

Normal part-time shifts are 4 hour blocks 4 PM to 8 PM on a sign up basis

Additional shifts vary as they come available

Application Procedures:

Qualified Individuals wishing to be considered for either the Part-Time or Full-Time positions shall furnish a letter of interest and a resume to the Village of Somonauk, either in person or via Email or Fax at the contacts listed above.

The Chief of Police and the Employee Relations Committee will review all letters of Interest and resumes, and will establish a list of candidates who will be invited to fill out an application and continue with the remainder of the selection process as determined by the Village of Somonauk.
