Starting: $88,214 - $110,533
Pay Scale effective May 1, 2023: $84,416 to $105,774 plus a 4.5% holiday pay disbursement paid at the end of November every year and included in base pay for pension purposes in lieu of holiday pay or additional time off, which brings total top step compensation to $110,533.
Police Officers work 12-hour shifts, bid annually by seniority, and work an 84-hour pay period.
The Village of East Dundee, a home rule community as defined by the Illinois Constitution, is located approximately 35 miles west of the City of Chicago, primarily in Kane County with a small portion in Cook County. East Dundee encompasses approximately 3.1 square miles. The Fox River is the western border of the Village and the Fox River Bike Trail runs through the Village's historic downtown district. Residents and visitors of East Dundee can enjoy an array of dining, retail, social and outdoor activities, including Santa's Village Azoosment & Water Park. A picturesque historic downtown, with the former train depot (now a visitor center) in the heart of the district is home to many popular year-round special events hosted by the Village and outside organizations.
The East Dundee Police Department is currently staffed by 15 full-time sworn police officers, including a Chief of Police, Deputy Chief of Police, and four Sergeants. Also, there are six part-time sworn police officers, one part-time records clerk, and one full-time records clerk.
Lateral entry applicants will be subject to the normal testing process for initial hires, except that lateral entry applicants will not be subject to a written examination.
Lateral hire applicants who have met all hiring prerequisites and oral examination will be placed upon the final eligibility register for lateral entry in order of their relative excellence, based upon their scores on the oral examination.
The election of statutory preference points will be processed according to the Board's rules.
Selection from the final eligibility register for lateral entry, including procedures following a conditional offer of employment, will follow the process outlined in the Board's rules. For purposes of appointment to a vacancy, the board may, but is not required to, give preference to an individual on the final eligibility register for lateral entry. The board, at its discretion, may make an offer of employment to a candidate from either the final eligibility register or the final eligibility register for lateral entry. An individual who has been on the final eligibility register for lateral entry for more than 2 years and has not been certified for hire shall be removed from the list.
