Position Details
The East Joliet Fire Protection District will be accepting applications to create an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.
The testing will establish an eligibility list that is good for two (2) years.
Testing process will be as follows:

A 70% score on the written test must be obtained to continue to the next phase of the testing process.
NO RECORDING DEVICES, CELL PHONES, PORTFOLIOS, OR BRIEFCASES WILL BE PERMITTED INTO THE INTERVIEW ROOM. PLEASE LEAVE ANY OF THESE ITEMS IN YOUR VEHICLE.
Oral interviews will be scheduled pending test results.
Qualifications:
- All applicants must be US citizens, a minimum of 20 years of age at time of application, a minimum of 21 years of age and cannot be 35 years of age or older, at time of job appointment except as otherwise provided by Illinois Statute 70ILCS 705.
- All applicants must be Illinois State Certified Paramedics at the time of hire.
- Residency within the 50 mile radius of East Joliet Fire Protection District Station 51 required within 12 months of appointment.
- Applicants must have a valid driver's license and no felony convictions.
Candidates must submit copies of the following with their applications:
- Birth Certificate
- Current CPAT Card
- Must present a valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certification with any licensed agency, issued no more than 12 months prior to time of job appointment
- High School Diploma/GED
- Valid Drivers License
- State Certified Paramedic License or proof of enrollment in Paramedic school
- Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter (if applicable)
Preference Points:
Documents relating to preference points must be submitted with application:
- Veteran: Applicants who served in the United States military for at least 1 year and who were honorably discharged shall receive 5 points. Proof of such service must include a copy of Military Form DD-214 (long form) as proof of active service and evidence of honorable discharge at time of application to qualify Residents of the district will be awarded 1 point.
- A degree in Fire Science or EMS shall be awarded 2 points. Official transcripts must be submitted at time of application to qualify.
- Current Part-Time/Paid-On-Call status with EJFPD: .5 points/year up to 5 years.
A non-refundable $25.00 application fee must be paid at time of application request, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Applications submitted MUST have all required documents attached when turned in otherwise they will be considered incomplete and shall be disqualified.
