Police Records Supervisor

Under the direction of the Deputy Police Chief, this position is responsible for supervising staff and operations responsible for the processing, filing, retrieval, and distribution of police records.

Other duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Planning, organizing, administering, reviewing and evaluating the work of assigned staff.
• Training assigned staff in their assigned duties/functions; provides for staff development.
• Responding to inquiries from agencies seeking record information and provides information to assist in law enforcement duties.
• Conducting records checks.
• Reviewing, approving and/or denying requests for release of police records.
• Investigating internal and external issues related to records staff, operations and procedures.
• Reviewing case reports; approve/return to officers for corrections.
• Preparing various reports containing statistical data on police records and crime data in compliance with Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) and National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) guidelines.
• Processing civil and criminal court subpoenas and other documents for release of police records.
• Purchasing and maintaining inventory of necessary supplies.
• Directing the maintenance of department records; ensures compliance with records laws and regulations.
• Contributing to the overall quality of the unit's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
• Demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acting in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma/GED; AND
• Four (4) years of experience in the records function of a law enforcement agency; OR
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources
• Illinois Drivers License is required
• Leads Certification and Illinois Breath Alcohol Certification are strongly preferred
