The Village is seeking highly professional, experienced candidates interested in serving as its next Chief of Police.

Located in Cook County, La Grange has a bustling downtown with excellent restaurants, high end retail, and a historic movie house. In addition, the community has beautiful neighborhoods and excellent schools all within 2.5 square miles and a short train ride to downtown Chicago. The Village is a full-service organization which provides Police, Fire, Community Development, Public Works, Financial and Administrative services. The Village has a $33 million budget and 91 full time and 29 part time employees.

• Including the Chief of Police, the La Grange Police Department has 28 sworn full time police personnel. The command staff includes a Deputy Chief and 6 Sergeants. There are also three part time police officers, two part time parking enforcement officers and 12 School Crossing Guards and an Administrative support position. E911 communications and dispatching are provided by through a joint dispatching effort with the Village of La Grange, the Village of La Grange Park and the Village of Western Springs. The Police Department budget is $4 million annually.
  
  
• The Village is seeking an experienced, innovative, collaborative police leader with demonstrated managerial, interpersonal and customer service skills. Successful candidates must be approachable to residents, business and governmental leaders.
  
  
• It is particularly important that the next Chief of Police be an integral and engaged leader of the Police Department, with a strong background in modern police practices understanding the need to use data for problem solving and community policing efforts. The ability to mentor and develop staff is also critical.
  
  
• The next Police Chief will also have a demonstrated record of fairness, transparency and consistency in the administration of departmental policies and procedures and the willingness to address issues in a positive and timely manner. The Chief of Police must possess well-developed writing and public speaking skills and the utmost integrity.

Successful candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public policy or related fields. A master’s degree is highly desired. Command leadership training such as the F.B.I. National Academy, Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute Command training or similar programs are highly desirable.

$130,000+/- depending upon qualifications
