We strive to embrace and promote this mission in all we do, providing police services, including but not limited to, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, conducting preventative and directed patrols, enforcing municipal ordinances and state laws and engaging in public education and community engagement activities.
This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants meeting the minimum qualifications. Police Officer recruitments are conducted every 6 months. Applicants must complete and pass each step-in order to make it to the eligibility list.

Physical Readiness Test:
In order to be admitted to the academy, candidates must pass a Physical Readiness Test administered by academy staff. The chart shows the entrance standards. The training sergeant will contact the applicant to schedule the PRT.

Onboarding:
January 6 - 20, 2025
Recruit Officers report to the Kenosha Police Department to receive their equipment and learn about the department.
Police Academy:
January 21, 2025
If an applicant is not certified, they are required to attend the Police Academy at Gateway for 720 hours before participating in the Field Training Program. (Probationary period of 352 days). The cost of the academy is covered by KPD as well as receiving full pay and benefits while in the academy.
*If an applicant is certified, they will move right to the Field Training Program at KPD before being assigned to solo patrol. (Pre-certified Probationary period of 252 days)
**If an applicant is already employed and certified from outside of WI, they will not need to attend the academy. They will need to pass the WI Reciprocity Exam within one year of hire date. ***Applicants are NOT required to pass the Wisconsin Reciprocity Exam prior to applying or being hired. The reciprocity exam can be completed while employed by the Kenosha Police Department and we will help with the process.
Post Academy:
After completion of the Police Academy the recruit will participate in four weeks of post academy Onboarding before beginning Field Training. Field Training typically takes around five months to complete before being certified for solo patrol.
Within one month after the completion of the probationary period, the officer must reside within Kenosha County, Racine County, Milwaukee County, Walworth County and Waukesha County in WI as well as all of Lake County, Illinois.
