Applications are considered complete when the on-line application has been completed successfully AND the required documents and forms have been received (deadline is 4:00 pm on Wednesday, September, 25, 2019)
Applicants must be present for and pass the following initial phases:
The scores of the written test and the oral examination are computed, and an Initial Eligibility Register is developed. Following the application of preference points, a Final Eligibility Register will be completed by December 2019.
When there is an opening within the Department, a background investigation will be conducted, to include a polygraph. Upon successful completion of the background investigation, a conditional offer of employment is made. This offer is contingent on passing the following examinations:
In addition, if it is necessary for the applicant to attend a police academy, he/she will be required to pass the POWER test. The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board have established the Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report for entering any of the Illinois certified police academies. The POWER test is provided to all candidates prior to entering the academy to determine if each individual meets pre-determined standards. Candidates who are already certified police officers are not required to take the POWER test.
Applications will be valid for two years from the due date of acceptance by the City of St. Charles. Applicants are able to reapply during the next testing cycle.
