Position Details

Position Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Safety & Security, the Safety Monitor provides active student, room, hallway, and door monitoring for district buildings to ensure staff maintain the ability to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (in criminal justice related field preferred)
  • Law enforcement or security experience preferred
  • Proficient with PCs, tablets, and other mobile electronic devices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and cloud-based applications
  • Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed
  • Effective interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong orientation toward providing customer service
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work positively and productively with adults and high school age students

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor student and visitor activity in all areas of the building per assigned schedule.
  • Enforce federal and state laws, Board policies, and district procedures.
  • Maintain watch for unauthorized items throughout the building, including empty spaces like unassigned lockers.
  • Perform safety and security check of all building doors.
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards, and other security-related situations in collaboration with the Safety and Security Coordinator, district and building administration, and local law enforcement.
  • Prepare and complete paperwork as assigned.
  • Provide assistance to students, substitutes, and other visitors as necessary and appropriate.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor for students, staff, and the community.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all district emergency procedures and provide any necessary assistance to visitors when any emergency situations arise.
  • Assist the Safety and Security Coordinator with staff training.
  • Participate in staff development programs as assigned.
  • Complete tasks assigned by the Safety and Security Coordinator or an administrator.

  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and push heavy carts.
