    The entry salary range is $68,416.15 to $106,423.93 depending on qualifications/years of service at the discretion of the Chief of Police in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement.

    Benefits:

    • Vacation eligibility of up to 200 hours annually based on current consecutive years of service in current qualifying organization.
    • The Village has established a 401(a) saving/investment plan for individuals that opt-out of participation in the Cary Police Pension Fund. 

    This is a full-time position that requires working various shifts.

Position Details

Police Officer - Alternative Eligibility Register

The Cary Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

Solicitation is being conducted to fill full-time current Police Officer vacancies and to identify candidates for an Alternate Eligibility Register (Lateral Entry) for available positions.

Candidates included on the Eligibility Register will remain eligible for two years or until exhausted.

You must meet the following minimum qualifications and requirements at the time of application:

  • Must satisfy the requirements for the position of Police Officer for the Village of Cary.
  • Must be a current, non-probationary, full-time sworn municipal police officer, state police officer, county sheriff's deputy, or college/university police officer who possesses a law enforcement officer certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
  • Current status as Police Officer, as outlined above, and currently in good standing in the Police Department in which the person serves with no adverse employment actions.
  • Completion and submission of an online application and all required documentation. Further documentation may be required to complete the background investigation process.

All portions of the alternative eligibility register testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.

Selection Process:

Candidates must satisfy the requirements of the Alternate Eligibility Register requirements as required by the Cary Police Commission. Candidates must participate in an in-person interview that will determine their placement on an eligibility register.

Applicants will be invited to participate in and successfully advance through the following steps:

  • Thorough background investigation
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Interview with representatives of the Police Commission (to be conducted evening of September 16, 2024)
  • Post-offer examinations include, but are not limited to:
    • psychological evaluation
    • medical examination which will include vision and drug screening
  • All appointments are subject to a required probationary period of 18 months.
