The applicant will carry out a range of responsibilities common to all law enforcement agencies.

Police Officers:

Minimum qualifications include:

• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must be a U.S. Citizen at the time of appointment.
• The applicant must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Must Possess a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
• Must Possess a valid FOID card
• Good mental and physical condition, and willing to adapt to change.
• Willingness to work all shifts (with an emphasis for night shifts)
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays
• Must currently possess a State of Illinois Law Enforcement Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a FULL-TIME or PART-TIME law enforcement officer in good standing
• Must exhibit good moral character and have not been convicted of any felony. Persons with a record of misdemeanor convictions may be disqualified from taking examinations as set forth in 65 ILCS 5/ Article 10-1-7(c). Certain misdemeanor convictions may disqualify candidates for a position in the Police Department. This can be viewed at www.ilga.gov.
• Preference to applicants who are state certified and Honorably discharged from the military.

All qualified applicants will be required to:

• Pass an oral interview
• Pass a thorough background investigation, including possible credit check
• Pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, polygraph, psychological evaluation 
• Complete a Reimbursement Agreement for costs incurred by the Village of Forest View for the applicant, should the applicant voluntarily leave the police department within the first eighteen months of employment

LATERAL HIRE - Candidates:

The Forest View Police Department is seeking experienced Police Officers for lateral entry.

These are for candidates who are currently employed for a minimum of two (2) years with their agency as a full-time Sworn Municipal Officer, Illinois State Trooper, or County Sheriff's Deputy (Patrol/Road Division). Or candidates who are separated/retired in good standing from a law enforcement agency.

Requirements:

• Must currently possess a State of Illinois Law Enforcement Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a FULL-TIME or PART-TIME law enforcement officer in good standing
• The selection process will include the following components:
• Oral interview
• Psychological assessment
• In-depth background investigation
• Pre-employment medical examination

Forest View Police Tattoos and Uniforms:

Tattoos to the head and facial area are prohibited, however, there are very limited exceptions with approval from the Chief of Police.

Freedom to wear long or short sleeve, whatever makes the individual comfortable year-round. Officers are encouraged to participate in yearly causes (Autism Awareness, Cop on Rooftop, Breast Cancer Awareness, Veterans Day) by wearing custom police patches.
