The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Lansing is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedic.
Testing is being conducted for an expected need to hire 2 (two) Firefighter/Paramedics and to establish an eligibility list for anticipated additional hiring needs.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be citizens of the United States and/or an alien admitted for permanent residence or lawfully admitted for temporary residence and who produces evidence of intention to become a citizen of the United States.
- Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application and at the time of hire.
- Age Requirement: Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (10/30/24) and must be under the age of 35 years on 11/16/2024 and when final eligibility register is posted unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10 – 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a certified full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department or fire protection district located in the State of Illinois.
- Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
- Residence: There are no stated requirements for residency declared by the Village of Lansing.
- Certification: All applicants for the position of firefighter shall be Illinois state-certified paramedics or at the time of hire. Candidates who are certified as Nationally Registered Paramedics at time of application shall be licensed as an EMT-P by the State of Illinois prior to appointment to the Village fire department. If not a certified paramedic, must be certified as an EMT-B by the State of Illinois and currently enrolled in a paramedic school at the time of application.
- NOTE: Applicants for the position of firefighter DO NOT need a Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter certification from the State of Illinois at the time of application or appointment.
- Applicants who are certified as a Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter by the State of Illinois shall be awarded 5 preference points as “Additional Points” under section 12(a) of the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
- TWO PHYSICAL TEST OPTIONS:
- Possess a valid CPAT Card dated between 10/30/23 – 11/16/24
- Successfully complete the physical ability examination on the day of testing.

There is a $10.00 non-refundable application fee. Applications are NOT available at the Lansing Fire Department or Village Hall.

Interviews for candidates who pass both the physical and written examinations are tentatively scheduled for the week of December 2, 2024. Candidates will be notified about the date, time, and location of their interview.
