The City of Highland Park, IL (pop. 29,641), a dynamic, progressive community with beautiful neighborhoods and vibrant commercial districts seeks experienced public safety professionals with strong communication skills as candidates for its next Chief of Police. The City is home to nationally-recognized schools, beautiful parks and ravines, and Ravinia Festival, a world class summer venue for the performing arts.

Please note the following information about the department and the Police Chief position requirements:
- Including the Chief of Police, the Highland Park Police Department is staffed by 57 sworn police officers, 12 full time non-sworn staff, 4 part-time non-sworn employees and 27 seasonal workers. Police Officers are represented by the Illinois Council of Police (ICOPs). Sergeants are represented by the Teamsters. E911 communications and dispatching are provided by the Village of Glenview, Illinois.
- The City is seeking an experienced, innovative, collaborative police leader with demonstrated managerial, interpersonal and customer service skills. Successful candidates must have an outgoing personality and be approachable to residents, business and community leaders.
- It is particularly important that the next Chief of Police be an integral and engaged leader of the Police Department, with a genuine desire to interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- The next Police Chief will also have a demonstrated record of fairness, transparency and consistency in the administration of promotional and special assignment processes and the willingness to address issues in a positive and timely manner. The Chief of Police must possess well-developed writing and public speaking skills and the utmost integrity and character.
Successful candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public policy or related fields. A master’s degree is highly desired. Command leadership training such as the F.B.I. National Academy, Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute Command training or similar programs are highly desirable.
The annual salary for this position is:
$150,000+/- depending upon qualifications
Residency is not required.
