Full-Time (Career) Firefighter/Paramedic

2025 Fire Examination Application

The Village of Homewood, Illinois (pop. 19,868) will hold a written examination on Saturday, January 11, 2025 to establish a to establish a two-year eligibility list for the position of Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic for the Village of Homewood.

The Village is seeking to hire three (3) Firefighter/Paramedics.

Qualifications:

• Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or an alien admitted for permanent residence or lawfully admitted for temporary residence and who produces evidence of intention to become a U.S. citizen.
• Applicants must be at least 21 years of age & under 35 years of age at the time of the written examination (unless exempt from age limitation according to state law, proof of which must be included with application submittal).
• Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Applicants must also provide a CPAT identification card as verification of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with an issuance date between January 11, 2024 and January 11, 2025. Proof of CPAT must be shown at the time of testing.

Invitation to Written Examination:

The Village will review applications, and qualifying applicants will be invited to take the written examination. Applicants will be contacted via email and phone.

Written Examination:

Invited applicants must attend an orientation session and take a written exam on:

The examination consists of reading comprehension, math, and listening comprehension components. Applicants should expect the entire process to take approximately 4 hours. A study guide for the written examination is provided with the application packet.

Oral Interviews:

Applicants passing the written examination shall be required to take an oral examination on a date during the third week of January 2025 to assess the applicant's speech, alertness, ability to communicate, judgment, emotional stability, self-confidence, social skills, and general fitness for the position. Applicants will be notified via email of their oral interview date and time.

CPAT:

Applicants must provide a copy of their CPAT & Ladder Climb identification card as verification of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test when submitting applications or no later than the date of the written test on Saturday, January 11, 2025. CPAT & Ladder Climb must be recent and issued between January 11, 2024 and January 11, 2025. Information on the CPAT and upcoming test dates are available on the MABAS 24 website at http://mabas24.org.

Final Selection Requirements:

Persons identified for appointment from this hiring process must pass a physical examination in order to be eligible for appointment by the Fire Chief.

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., Orientation begins at 8:30 a.m. and the written examination begins immediately following the orientation, but no later than 9:00 a.m. Doors will be closed for check-in promptly at 8:15 a.m. Park in the main parking lot and enter the main doors. Any applicant arriving after 8:15 a.m. WILL NOT be admitted. Applicants already in the check-in line at 8:15 a.m. will be permitted to take the examination. Applicants must present their driver's license at the time of check-in in order to take the examination.

4. Copy of high school diploma or GED

7. Proof of exemption from the age limitation according to state law (if applicable)
