Firefighter Minimum Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship
• No felony convictions
• Valid driver's license
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) or College Diploma
• 21 to 35 years of age by date of hire unless otherwise exempt by statute
• CPAT and Ladder Climb verification by application deadline (valid if issued 1/17/2024 – 1/17/2025)
• Must satisfy one of the following requirements:
• • Must be a licensed paramedic and possess a basic operations firefighter (BOF) certification from the IL Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).
    • Note: The department will send candidates who are currently paramedics but do not possess their BOF to the academy. In this situation, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of the academy course. OR
• Must possess a BOF from the IL OSFM and be a licensed EMT-B who will be enrolled in a paramedic program by date of hire. 

Testing Instructions:

Your exam will be offered electronically, and you will take the exam in your own home. Testing session(s) will be offered to eligible candidates and will be proctored virtually. Session(s) will be offered during business hours the week of February 17, 2025, and no evening or weekend sessions will be available – it is your responsibility to ensure you have the flexibility to test during these times.

In early February, you will receive an email with instructions on how to schedule and prepare for the exam. Please read read through the instructions carefully before your exam date. Failure to follow the steps outlined may cause the electronic exam to not work properly, potentially resulting in your removal from the testing session.
