Position Details

The BFPC offers full testing services for the position of Police Officer through National Testing Network, Inc.

Job Requirements: 

• Age: Minimum of 21 years of age. Be UNDER 35 years of age on the date of appointment, unless:
• The Candidate has been previously employed as a policeman in a regularly constituted police department of any municipality, regardless of whether the municipality is located in Illinois or in another state; or
• The candidate has served as an auxiliary police officer under Section 3.1-30-20 for at least 5 years and is under 40 years of age; or
• The candidate has served as a deputy under Section 3-6008 of the Counties Code and otherwise meets necessary training requirements; or
• The candidate has served as a sworn officer as a member of the Illinois Department of State Police.
• Note: A veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision of this Section by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty.
• Citizenship Required: Yes
• High School Grad/GED: High School graduate or possess a G.E.D. equivalent
• Valid State Driver's License: Yes
• Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
• Vision: Possess 20/20 corrected vision
• College: Completed a minimum of 60 credit hours at an accredited college, university or junior college (official transcripts will be required at the background investigation stage) - OR - have at least one year of active military or naval service (documented by an honorable discharge) by the application deadline date.
• Academy Certification: Not required but Illinois hiring preference per statute
• Prior Experience: Not required
• Necessary Certifications: Possess a valid Power Test card valid within one year of the oral interview. POWER Test Cards issued by NIPSTA, Triton College or Joliet Junior College will be accepted.
