Position Details

The Board of Police Commissioners for the Village of Lake in the Hills is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Police Officer.

Testing is being conducted to establish a new Eligibility List for anticipated hiring needs.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department is a full service staff that is comprised of one of the most professional and community-minded groups of law enforcement professionals in the State of Illinois.  The department is dedicated to the protection of all persons and property and committed to a vision of the future whereby compassion, integrity, trust, responsibility, and loyalty are integral components of the service provided. You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.  Applicants must be under the age of 35 on 2/22/2025 unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10 – 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a certified full-time police officer in a regularly constituted police department of any municipality in the United States.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Residence:  Must reside within a 20 air mile radius of the corporate limits of the Village of Lake in the Hills at the end of the established probationary period (12 months).
• Vision:  Eyesight must be corrected to at least 20/20, and must have the ability to distinguish color and be void of night blindness.
• P.O.W.E.R. Card: Candidates are not required to have a P.O.W.E.R. Card to apply and take the written examination. Candidates must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card from a certified testing agency at time of conditional offer of employment.

There is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee.  Applications are NOT available at the  Lake in the Hills Police Department or Village Hall.
