All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the City of Elmhurst:

• At least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of application (April 28, 2025), except per Illinois Statute 65 ILCS 5/0-1-7 and 5/10-1-12 of the Civil Service Act, which provides in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a full-time Firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois;
• Applicants for examination must be citizens of the United States, except that an individual who is not a citizen but is legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law or is an individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process;
• High school graduate or GED equivalent;
• Possess a valid driver's license;
• Possess a valid EMT-Basic (EMT-B) License from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) prior to the City extending a conditional offer of employment;
• Present a valid CPAT card with Ladder Climb prior to the City extending a conditional offer of employment, with an issue date within 12 months of the date of the time of conditional employment;
• Must successfully complete a written exam, polygraph, background investigation, oral interview, medical examination, drug test, and psychological examination.
• There is no fee for this application.
• Participate in mandatory Remote On-Line Written Examination to be held between May 8 and May 12, 2025.
