The Village of Tinley Park is seeking to fill the highly sensitive role of 911 Dispatcher in the Tinley Park Dispatch Center.
This 911 Dispatcher is primarily responsible for effectively communicating with the public in emergency situations while operating the Village-wide enhanced 911 Emergency Communications System as they receive, evaluate, process, dispatch incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, and EMS to persons requesting assistance.
This position will assess situations quickly and accurately using appropriate judgment to determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations and use multi-tasking skills to dispatch units in accordance with established procedures.
In addition, they must be able to provide emergency medical dispatch (EMD) instructions over the phone and multi-task effectively to obtain information from all relevant sources, prioritize incoming calls, radio traffic, and walk-in traffic for the duration of assigned shift.
This position will also monitor all police, fire and EMS radio traffic including transmitting and retrieve information through in-house, local, county, state, and federal law enforcement data networks in addition to operating the Telephone Device for Hearing Impaired (TDD).
Additionally, will relay information and message to and from emergency sites to law enforcement agencies and to other individuals or groups requiring notification and accurately record information on a variety of forms, logs, and computer screens as dictated by department's established policies and procedures.
This important role will also maintain awareness of field unit activities within the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, LEADS/NCIC, and other computer-based programs for:
Retrieve and transmit information concerning public safety to officers in the field such as:
High School Diploma with a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of dispatch or related public service or emergency management experience.
Experience in the techniques and practices of public safety communications environment, including:
