According to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, during a lateral transfer recruitment opportunity the District reserves the right to start a new employee at Step B or Step C of the wage schedule. The new employee must have a minimum of eighteen (18) months of full-time service as a sworn police officer and have, prior to their hire, completed the certification requirements of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

The Ranger Police Officer enforces the Illinois Compiled Statutes and District Rules & Regulations on District lands. Responsible for the protection of the public and natural resources. Provides public relations field support, surveillance, emergency assistance, and assistance to local law enforcement agencies. The Lake County Forest Preserve District's Public Safety Department has a Community-Oriented Policing philosophy and is responsible for maintaining the peace and initiating activities that build positive relationships with the public. The selected candidate will conduct high visibility patrols on foot, bike, or vehicle to prevent crime or disturbance of the peace, control traffic, maintain order, conduct surveillance, investigations, make arrests and provide emergency assistance.
