The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village of Riverside, Illinois is accepting Lateral Transfer applications for the position of Police Officer with the Village of Riverside Police Department.
Lateral Entry Candidates must:
- Be at a minimum of 21 years of age; unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in § 5/10-2.1-6 of the Act.
- Be currently certified and employed as a full-time Law Enforcement Officer, as established by the officer's previous law enforcement agency and verified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board pursuant to 65ILCS 5/10-2.1-6(h).
- Have two years of continuous service as a full-time police officer.
- Be a United States of America citizen and/or an alien admitted for permanent residence or lawfully admitted for temporary residence and who produces evidence of intention to become a citizen of the United States.
- Possess a valid Illinois driver's license.
- Possess a valid Firearms Owners Identification card (FOID).
- Have fewer than two chargeable vehicle accidents within the past 36 months at the time of application. Chargeable accidents are defined as accidents where the fault was established by a law enforcement investigative body.
- Have no convictions for DUI and no loss of license as a result of a moving violation within the past 36 months at the time of application.
- Have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions as set forth 50 ILCS 705/6.1.
- Have no convictions of domestic violence-related charges.
- Have no convictions for serious misdemeanors involving moral turpitude as defined in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6 and/or engaged in any conduct prohibited under 50 ILCS 705/6.3, and
- Have a clean disciplinary record with their current and former police department employers, including, but not limited to: no sustained violations involving excessive force or dishonesty, including stealing, lying or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, either on or off duty. A sustained violation is defined as a finding by a law enforcement investigating body that is/was more likely true than not true that the accused did what he/she was accused of doing. For purposes of this position, a person is considered to have been "convicted of, found guilty of, or entered a plea of guilty to, plea of nolo contendere to" an offense regardless of whether the adjudication of guilt or sentence is withheld or not entered thereon, including sentences of supervision, conditional discharge, first offender probation, or any similar disposition as provided for by law. Conviction does not include an offense which has been expunged prior to the individual becoming a law enforcement officer (or, before submitting this application.)

- Discharge papers
- Social Security card
- Birth Certificate
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate
- College/University Degree
- If requested, a copy of a certified transcript of course work from an accredited College/University
- Ability to lawfully work in the United States if applicant is not a U.S. citizen

Eligibility List:
Acceptable candidates shall be placed on a new or current lateral entry eligibility pool list in ranking order, from which the Village of Riverside Director of Public Safety may select, at his discretion to fill lateral entry vacancies depending on qualifications and experience. Acceptable candidates may remain on the lateral entry eligibility pool list for a period of up to two years.
