• Part-Time Officer Information:

  Current Starting Salary: $25.00 – $30.00 depending on qualification and years of service.

  Full-Time Officer Information:

  Current Starting Salary: $71,210.72 up to $83,305.76 depending on qualification and years of service, including the nine paid holidays.

  • Two raises per year including an annual step increase and an annual cost of living increase 
  • Six steps to the current top salary of $107,636.48. 

  Paid Time Off:

  • Vacation (43 hours after 6 months, 86 hours after completion of 1 year)
  • Sick (60 hours annually)
  • Unlimited accumulation of compensatory time up to 150 hours 

  Shift Scheduling:

  • Twelve-hour shifts, with three-day weekends every other weekend
  • Annual shift rotation based on bid system; upon completion of probationary period 

  Pension: 

  Round Lake Park Police Pension Fund is well funded and accepts the transfer of other pensions into the fund, including Article 3 (Downstate), and other Illinois pension systems in accordance with applicable current Illinois pension transfer rules/laws.  The pension funds transferred will be used to determine an officer’s pensionable service time.

Position Details

The Round Lake Park Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Lateral Full-time Police Officer and Certified Part-time Police Officers for the purpose of filling current and future position vacancies.

Lateral candidates must have two years of full-time law enforcement experience to be considered for the position of full-time police officer. Part-time officers must be certified as a full or part-time officer by the State of Illinois, or by another State that Illinois has reciprocity with. If an out of state law enforcement certification is recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, candidates will be required to complete Illinois State mandated transition training.

Minimum Requirements:

• Certified as a full-time or part-time Police Officer in the State of Illinois, or able to become certified.
• U.S. Citizenship
• No felony convictions
• High school diploma/GED
• Valid driver’s license
• 20 to under 35 years of age at the time of higher, unless otherwise exempt by Statute. Must be 21 years of age upon selection and entry into the police academy.
• Must pass all phases of hiring process including:
• Oral interview
• Polygraph test
• Psychological exam
• Medical exam
• Drug screen
• Background investigation
