Hiring Process explained:

Our hiring process is designed to find dedicated, community-minded individuals ready to serve with integrity. Candidates begin with a written examination to assess judgment and problem-solving skills, followed by a panel interview with the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners. Those who advance will complete a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation and polygraph examination to ensure honesty and emotional readiness for the demands of law enforcement. Final candidates undergo a medical examination and drug screening to confirm fitness for duty. Each step is an opportunity to demonstrate your commitment, professionalism, and readiness to join our team. 

Minimum Requirements:

• U.S. citizenship or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• High school diploma or GED
• Must have successfully obtained from an accredited junior college, college or university, 60 semester hours or equivalent quarter or trimester hours and achieved a “C” grade point average
• Valid driver's license
• Must be 21 years of age at time of application and under 35 years of age at time of application and at such time as the initial eligibility list is established (except as otherwise determined by State Statute)
• Applicants must have 20/20 corrected vision (eye glasses or contacts may be used to meet the standards) and must be able to distinguish between colors (red, blue, green and yellow)
• Must possess and provide a copy of a valid Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report Test (POWER) card dated within one year from the exam date

The test will take place in the morning in or around Clarendon Hills, IL. Additional details, including the time and location of the written test will be provided to eligible candidates approximately one week before the scheduled exam.

All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and successfully complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
