Department Overview:

The WFPD is located 24 miles west of Chicago in DuPage County and is bordered by Aurora, Naperville, Lisle, West Chicago, and Winfield. WFPD is a member of MABAS Division 16 and covers over 18 sq. mi serving ~20,000 residents w/avg of 2000 calls per year.

Job Requirements:

• Age: 21 years of age and not older than 35 at time of appointment, unless otherwise exempt by statute
• US Citizen: U.S. Citizen
• High School Grad/GED: High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid State Driver's License: Possess a valid State of Illinois driver's license with good driving record at time of hire
• Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
• Vision: Possess 20/20 corrected vision
• College: N/A
• Academy Certification:
• Possess a Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter (BOF) Certification from the Office of the State Fire Marshal (Illinois) at time of hire, or posses a valid paramedic license and can reasonably complete BOF within 6 months of hire*(Full conditions available upon request.)
• Possess a valid Paramedic License from the Illinois Department of Public Health - (IDPH) at time of hire, or posses a valid FFII or BOF and is reasonably able to become a licensed paramedic within 7 months of hire** (Full conditions available upon request.) 

Additional Requirements:

• No felony convictions
• Complete and pass a medical physical evaluation
• Possess 20/20 corrected vision
• Present a valid CPAT card with Ladder Climb certificate dated within one year of the application deadline. Must be dated 06/13/2022 – 06/13/2023
• Possess a valid Paramedic License from the Illinois Department of Public Health - (IDPH) at time of hire
• Possess a Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter (BOF) Certification from the Office of the State Fire Marshal (Illinois) at time of hire*
• Must successfully test into the Edward Hospital EMS System (after contingent offer of employment)
• Must successfully complete a written examination
• Must pass a comprehensive background investigation

Primary Responsibilities:

• Firefighter Paramedics must demonstrate a high level of competency in the knowledge, skills and abilities associated with the performance of duty.
• Firefighter Paramedics are responsible for complying with all applicable directives, policies and procedures of the Warrenville Fire Protection District.
• Firefighter Paramedics are responsible for insuring that personal protective equipment, apparatus and equipment is in good order and ready for use.
• Firefighter Paramedics are responsible for the safe and effective performance of duties prescribed by any lawful order, directive, policy or procedure prescribed by the Warrenville Fire Protection District. 

Summary of Tasks:

• Routine inspection and maintenance of equipment carried on all vehicles and apparatus including personal protective equipment, hand tools, power tools and equipment, EMS equipment and supplies.
• Required tasks associated with emergency response in a Safe and effective manner. These include EMS basic and advanced tasks that insure proper patient assessment and treatment, packaging and transport.
• Proper placement and operation of apparatus. Deployment and use of equipment such as supply and attack hose, ladders, power equipment, and hand tools commonly used in fire rescue and suppression situations. Fire rescue and suppression tasks such as working in environments that are immediately dangerous to life and health to perform coordinated search and rescue activities, ventilation and fire suppression.
