Salary:

• Starting: $24.43/hour (New Officers)

  Lateral Entry Pay: Up to $31.08/hour, based on years of experience

  Overtime: Paid in accordance with the Teamsters Local #26 Collective Bargaining Agreement (next bargaining agreement starts next year)

Position Details

Now Hiring: 1 Full-Time Police Officer

Status:

Non-Exempt/Hourly

Schedule:

Five (5) eight-hour shifts per week (fixed schedule, no rotation)

Chief of Police

About the Department:

Located in central Illinois within Douglas County, the Villa Grove Police Department is seeking a dedicated and community-focused individual to join our team. Our department includes six full-time sworn officers (including one School Resource Officer) and three part-time officer, supported by a pro-police city council and community.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• U.S. Citizen
• Valid Driver's License and FOID Card
• High School Diploma or GED (college coursework preferred)
• No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors
• Must pass a background investigation, medical exam, psychological evaluation, and physical fitness assessment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Military, corrections, or security experience preferred but not required 

Primary Duties:

• Enforce state laws and local ordinances
• Respond to emergency and service calls
• Conduct criminal and traffic investigations
• Prepare written reports and maintain accurate records
• Engage with the community to promote safety and public trust
• Attend required training sessions to maintain certification and proficiency 

Work Schedule:

• Five (5) fixed eight-hour shifts per week
• Set days off (no rotation)
• Overtime and training assignments as approved by the Chief of Police
