Starting pay rate with no experience: $57,033

Lateral candidates prior experience will be reviewed for placement within the salary range.

Join Our Team as a Full-Time Telecommunicator!

Looking for a communications center where you can build strong connections with officers and firefighters? If so, we may be the perfect fit for you! Our Telecommunicators play a vital role in public safety and are based in the DeKalb Police Department.

What You’ll Do:

As a Telecommunicator, you will:

Receive, prioritize and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and EMS
Handle calls from multiple sources including an NG9-1-1 system, text-to-911, video-to-911, video relay services, social media, and alarm systems.
Operate a multi-channel radio console with multiple computer terminals to dispatch and manage calls for service.
Accurately enter and update information in a computer-aided dispatch system following established procedures.

No experience? Not a problem!

We offer a comprehensive training program to prepare you for success.

Experienced? Great!

Your experience will be considered for placement within our pay range.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to type 35 words per minute.
Valid driver’s license
Willingness to obtain required certifications, including:

LEADS 3.0 Full Access (within 30 days)
Illinois State Police Telecommunicator Sexual Assault/Abuse Training (within 30 days)
40-hour PowerPhone Public Safety Dispatch Course (during training)
CPR/AED Certification (within agreed timeframe)
Illinois Emergency Medical Dispatcher License (before training completion)

Prior experience is a plus—but we’re happy to train the right candidate!
