This is a non-sworn uniformed civilian position supporting basic law enforcement operations. Community Service Officers assist sworn Police Officers in daily duties. The Community Service Officer will perform all the following but not limited to boating operations, boat crash investigations, search and rescue, report writing, obtaining individuals' personal information, issuing citations, issuing warnings, cleaning the Office, completing appropriate paperwork and other related duties as required. Community Service Officers are also required to perform first responder duties and provide basic emergency medical service. Duties are performed under general supervision of the on-duty Officer. Varied shift hours as assigned by the Department. Every shift consists of two Officers or one Officer and one CSO working together on a patrol boat per shift. Normal shifts are scheduled from 8:00am - 4:00pm and 4:00 pm - 12:00 am. Hours are subject to change and may differ for special assignments.
The Community Service Officer shall be appointed by the Commander of GLLEA subject to the approval of the GLLEA Board of Directors and shall be directly accountable for his or her actions and performance to the on-duty Officer.
