The Village of Homewood is a well-managed and well-governed community that provides effective, efficient, and timely municipal services to its residents, stakeholders, and customers.
Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, the part-time Fire Inspector supports the Village's fire prevention and life-safety mission by conducting code compliance inspections, documenting hazards, educating owners/occupants, and assisting with plan reviews and new construction inspections. The role works closely with businesses, property managers, contractors, and partnering agencies to reduce community risk, improve compliance with applicable fire and life-safety codes, and support safe operations at occupancies and special events.
Currently, the Village is hiring for one (1) Part-time Fire Inspector. The position is anticipated to work 20 hours per week. The position is seasonal starting April 1st to November 30th.
Description:
- The Fire Department is looking for a motivated and personable professional with municipal experience in a building or fire department.
- The candidate should have experience performing fire and life-safety inspections across a wide range of occupancies to ensure compliance with adopted codes and Village ordinances.
- Documenting inspection findings, issues and tracks violations, conducts re-inspections, and maintains accurate records within the department's records management system.
- Supporting community risk-reduction efforts, prepares inspection reports and case files, and coordinates with Village departments and regional partners to support effective compliance and enforcement.
- Assisting with acceptance testing and verification of fire protection systems, occupancy and permit-related inspections, plan and document reviews, and public education/outreach initiatives.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; coursework or training in fire inspections, code enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Must be a certified State of Illinois Firefighter.
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant inspection, fire prevention, required; three (3) or more years of fire service, prevention experience preferred.
