Position Details

The Dixon City Fire Department is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedic.

Located along the scenic Rock River in Northwestern Illinois, Dixon is a thriving community of almost 16,000, and serves as the county seat of Lee County. At the hub of four major highways and one interstate, Dixon is the economic center of the county and an important focus for agriculture, industry, service, retail, recreation and residential growth.

The Dixon City Fire Department is an important part of our community providing fire suppression, specialized rescue, fire prevention, emergency medical services and disaster preparedness on a 48/96 schedule. Their mission is "to provide professional fire protection, quality emergency services, and life safety to meet the needs of our community." They take this mission very seriously, and they work diligently to deliver a superior level of service through tradition, innovation and honor to the citizens they are sworn to serve. This department exists solely to improve the quality of life, health, and safety of their community.

Testing can be completed at Sauk Valley Community College at a time that is convenient for the candidate. Information for scheduling your test is included with the application.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver's License: Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver's License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement: Applicants must have obtained their 20th birthday by the last date for filing applications (4/13/26) and must be under the age of 35 years old on the same date unless exempt by State Statute 70 ILCS 705/116.006 and 65 IL 5/10 – 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a certified full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois.
• Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Residence: Dixon City Fire Department – Fifteen (15) minute drive from the Dixon City Fire Department within one (1) year of hire.
• CPAT Card with Ladder Climb - NOTE: candidates must possess a valid CPAT Card with Ladder Climb at the time of hire – cards considered valid if issued within one year prior to time of hire.
