The Board of Fire & Police Commission for The Village of Romeoville, Illinois, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Firefighter, without regard to race, color, creed, gender or ethnic origin, to establish an eligibility registry for immediate openings and future openings in the Romeoville Fire Department.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Must be a citizen of the United States.
• Must be at least 20 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of written examination but must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment, unless the candidate qualifies for an exemption as a veteran and/or firefighter as provided by state statutes.
• High School diploma or its equivalent.
• Valid driver's license at time of appointment.
• Illinois licensed EMT-P, at time of hire. 
• Applicants enrolled in a State of Illinois IDPH approved paramedic program shall be allowed to complete the testing process.
• Applicants must provide proof of enrollment in the program by submitting a letter from the organization sponsoring their enrollment or by the course administrator, on their letterhead.
• Candidates that do not possess Basic Operations Firefighter or Firefighter 2 certification will be sent through the academy at no cost.
• Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certificate that includes ladder climb, at time of hire. 

MANDATORY ORIENTATION AND WRITTEN EXAMINATION:

Thursday, June 18, 2026

The sign in process will start at 5:30 PM and the Orientation will start at 6:00 PM.

The Written Examination will follow immediately after the Orientation.

A photo I.D. with signature, copy of EMT-Paramedic license or proof of enrollment in the program by submitting a letter from the organization sponsoring their enrollment will be required for admission.

Candidate Preparation Manuals - $7.50

Includes detailed recommendations on important concepts, such as the most effective test-taking strategies and methods, specific information about CPS HR test forms, and what to expect on the day of the test administration. Also includes several practice questions covering each section of the test, along with helpful tools, like a sample answer sheet and template test instructions for candidates to prepare before the day of the test.

Practice Tests - $17.50

Simulates full-length versions of CPS HR tests and have been designed to replicate the look and feel of test-day material. Contains practice items across the same sections contained in our test forms. When candidates have completed the online practice exam, they will receive a breakdown of their scores by section. (Candidates will not receive a list of the questions and answers.) In addition, candidates can re-take the exam one additional time at no cost.
