The Kendall County Sheriff Merit Commission is establishing an eligibility list for:

Lateral Corrections Deputy

The Sheriff's Office is seeking certified Illinois Correctional Officers to join our growing team of professional deputies.

Qualified applicants must:

• Currently be employed by a county or state agency within the State of Illinois as a full-time Correctional Officer for at least 2 years and currently certified in the State of Illinois and in good standing with current agency. 

Lateral testing is being conducted on an on-going basis. Applicants may apply to take the test at their convenience and there is no end date for lateral applicants.

• Schedule the Written Exam, Interview & Corrections Agility Test (CAT Test)
• The Sheriff’s Office HR Office will reach out to you via email once your application is received to schedule a date and time.
• For the written exam, you must pass each section with a 70% or better. If you score below 70% in one section, you fail the entire test.
• Interview- This is a general pass/fail interview to learn more about you and your qualifications.
• CAT Test. - The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office CAT Test is loosely based on the IL Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board P.O.W.E.R Test, with the requirements that must be met below.   In lieu of taking the CAT test, the applicant may provide a valid P.O.W.E.R. test dated after January 1, 2026.
• The Corrections Agility Test is comprised of:
• Sit and Reach – 14
• 1 Minute Sit Ups – 24
• 1 Mile Run – 12 minutes or less
• Maximum Bench Press
• 50% of body weight for females
• 70% of body weight for males
• Background Check to include polygraph
• Psychological/Medical Exam to include drug testing

Applicants must meet the following criteria for lateral transfer consideration:

• Must be currently employed in the State of Illinois as a Correctional Deputy Sheriff, Municipal Correctional Officer or Illinois State Correctional Officer
• Have two years of full-time, continuous experience with the same correctional agency where currently employed
• Be certified as a full-time correctional deputy in the State of Illinois
• Be in good standing will current employer
