The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village of Hillside, Illinois is accepting applications to establish a new firefighter/paramedic eligibility register for future hiring.

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Hillside:

• U.S. citizenship
• No felony convictions
• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
• Valid driver's license at time of application with the ability to obtain a Class B non-CDL License in Illinois
• Minimum of 21 years of age and not older than 35 years of age by the date of hire, unless the candidate has previous experience as a full-time firefighter in the state of Illinois, or is a veteran that qualifies under Illinois Public Act 97-0251
• Possess a valid Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) or National Registry EMT-Paramedic License (EMT-P) issued at the time of conditional offer of employment
• MUST possess a valid CPAT “Candidate Physical Ability Test” with Ladder Climb Test Certificate by a certified provider within 12 months prior to conditional offer of employment
• Candidates must pass a written examination, oral interview, polygraph test, background investigation, psychological, and medical examination
• Participate in a mandatory remote on-line written examination (Test will be available to applicants between Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 9:00 AM through Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 4:00 PM)
• $30.00 non-refundable application processing fee.
• The application deadline is Monday, August 10, 2026, at 4:00 PM.

Preference Points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Hillside for the following:

• Military Experience: Active-duty U.S. military service members with an un-redacted Honorable Discharge.  DD-214 must be submitted with application to qualify. 
• Certified Paramedics: Applicants currently certified as paramedics will be awarded preference points on the final register list. A copy of valid certification must be submitted with application to qualify.
