Under general supervision, performs a variety of entry-level support activities. Work includes varied processing and entry level security duties, sanitation, cleaning, utility and laundry duties, computer terminal operation when applicable to assigned functional area. Work will involve working around inmates, such as processing or in supervision. Incumbents follow prescribed security procedures and departmental regulations in performing related work as directed.

Reports to and is supervised by the Detention Supervisor, Watch Commander.

This is a part-time position; hours will vary to include day, afternoon or evening as determined by position duties and specified department operations.

Essential and important duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
Must establish residency within corporate limits of the City of Chicago Heights within one year from date of hire.
High school diploma or GED certification required; prefer previous experience in sanitation, cleaning, utility and/or laundry work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Compliance with requirement to adhere to uniformed dress code criteria; possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment without any restrictions that affect job performance.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by any an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in to light to moderately heavy work, typically involving some combination of bending, reaching, stooping, or kneeling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderately heavy weight (50-100 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time standing or sitting at a workstation. May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Tasks are performed in a corrections environment where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with routine conditions in a corrections detainment environment, e.g., loud noise, pathogens, disruptive and/or potentially violent behavior.
