POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Social Worker at First Responders Wellness Center (FRWC), you will deliver clinical services to first responders, veterans, and their spouses. FRWC is a mission-driven practice serving public safety personnel exclusively, staffed by clinicians who understand first responder culture firsthand. This role centers on two priorities: specialized psychological evaluations and trauma-focused clinical therapy. Psychologists will conduct Pre-employment Evaluations and FOID Evaluations as well as therapy services and annual wellness visits. Social workers will conduct therapy services and annual wellness visits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Psychologists: Specialized Evaluations & Testing
• Conduct pre-employment psychological evaluations for public safety candidates.
• Conduct FOID Card reinstatement evaluations and mental health evaluations under Illinois law and Illinois State Police.
• Conduct Fitness for Duty Evaluations (FFDE).
• Psychologists & Social Workers: Trauma-Focused Clinical Therapy
• Provide individual and/or couples therapy using evidence-based, trauma-focused modalities (CBT, CPT, DBT, ERP, EMDR).
• Apply a working understanding of trauma's impact on the brain and the diagnosis of PTSD to case formulation.
• Case Management & Collaborative Care:
• Assess and diagnose clients to develop comprehensive, individualized treatment plans.
• Participate in a minimum of one hour per week of case consultation and didactics with FRWC staff. 

GROWTH OPPORTUNITY (NOT REQUIRED AT HIRE):

• Clinical Supervision & Mentorship: as caseload and experience allow opportunity to provide clinical supervision and mentorship to potential interns and postdoctoral fellows. This is a development path, not a condition of hire — candidates are not screened out for lacking supervisory experience today. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education:
• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from an accredited program.
• Masters degree (LCSW, LCPC) from an accredited program.
• Licensure:
• Active, unrestricted Illinois license to practice as a Clinical Psychologist or LCSW/LCPC, required at hire.
• Experience for Psychologists:
• Demonstrated experience conducting psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and forensic testing; experience with pre-employment, fitness-for-duty, or FOID evaluations is preferred.
• Experience providing trauma-focused individual and/or couples therapy.
• Specialized Knowledge:
• Working knowledge of PTSD diagnostic criteria and the neurobiological impact of trauma.
• Familiarity with Illinois FOID Card mental health certification requirements.
• Experience for Social Work/LCSW/LCPC:
• 2 years of experience in trauma informed care, PTSD.
• Experience with police and public safety and crisis intervention.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

• Trauma-informed, culturally competent care tailored to first responder and veteran populations.
• Expertise in neurobiological understanding of trauma effects on the brain.
• Proficiency in forensic-adjacent assessment methodology and clinical report writing (FFDE, FOID).
• Ability to build rapport with a trust-guarded clientele and communicate clinical findings clearly.
