Position Details

The Homewood Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Part-Time Community Service Officer.

This uniformed, unarmed civilian position provides support to the patrol division by performing a variety of duties including:

• Responding to non-emergency calls for service
• Issue citations for violations of village ordinances, including parking and animal control laws
• Safely capture, restrain and transport stray, injured, or lost domestic pets to designated locations
• Conduct routine visibility patrols in commercial districts and high-violation parking zones
• Provide traffic control at vehicle accidents
• Safely cross pedestrians at designated school crossing details
• Assist motorists with disabled vehicles and vehicle lock outs
• Assist with equipment set-up, crowd control and traffic routing for village-sponsored and community events 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Graduate or GED equivalent
• Valid driver's license and clear driving record
• Ability to acquire and maintain LEADS Less Than Full Access certification
• Must be available to work an irregular schedule tailored to department needs, including rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays and emergency call-backs
• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat and handle unpredictable animals in various outdoor climates (i.e. heat, rain, snow, sleet, ice, cold, etc.) 

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

• Strong ability to multi-task with high attention to detail
• Self-starter able to work independently and make decisions in accordance with establish department policies
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to read, write and speak clearly
• Ability to work well under pressure and function at a high level under hectic, fast-paced conditions
• Working knowledge of standard productivity software (Microsoft Suite) and the ability to learn proprietary police Records Management Systems (RMS) and electronic ticketing software 

Candidates must pass:

• Background investigation
• Polygraph test
• Medical exam
• Drug screen
