The City of McHenry Police Department is accepting applications for the creation of a new Lateral Entry Police Officer Eligibility List.

Lateral Entry Police Officer Minimum Requirements:
All bulleted criteria or its stated alternative must be met by the closing date of 2/18/19 to be a qualified applicant. All supporting documentation must be completed and/or uploaded into the online application.
- Applicants of the lateral entry program must be a certified police officer as defined by the Illinois Police Training Act. Out of state certifications must be eligible for transfer to Illinois in accordance with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
- Applicants must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or completed 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.
The college education requirement may be waived under one of the following two circumstances:
- The applicant has served for 36 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable.
- The applicant has served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable.
- Within the last two years, the applicant must have been a full time police officer in another law enforcement agency for a minimum of 12 months.
- No age limitations.
- Physically able to perform the essential job functions of the position.
- Speak and understand English language sufficient to discharge the duties of Police Officer for the City of McHenry.
Hiring Process:
The hiring process shall be in accordance with the City of McHenry Local Ordinance: Section 18 Article VI - Police Officer Lateral Entry Program.
Part 1:
- Completed and submitted electronic application
- Screening of application to ensure the candidate is qualified
- Oral Interview
Once Part 1 has been completed the McHenry Police Commission shall establish a Lateral Eligibility list in accordance with City Ordinance. Part 2: Any applicant who is placed on the eligibility list must successfully complete the following steps prior to employment.
- Character Background Investigation
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Examination
- Post offer medical examination
