Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Glenwood is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

Testing is being conducted to fill a current vacancy and to establish an Eligibility List for future hiring needs.

The Village of Glenwood is conveniently located 23 miles south of the City of Chicago Loop. The Village is primarily surrounded by Cook County Forest Preserves.  Glenwood consists of affordable single-family homes as well as large upscale custom homes. The Glenwood Police Department is committed to creating and maintaining a professional and community-oriented police service.  With its diverse Department it is equipped and trained to handle many types of emergency situations. In addition, their officers are involved in a variety of regional task forces and special units.  At this time the Village of Glenwood has a large commercial development project in progress and the staff of the Glenwood Police Department have many new opportunities available to them.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen 
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age requirement:  Applicants must have attained their 21st Birthday at the last date for filing applications 7/15/20. Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing applications 7/15/20 and at the time the Final Eligibility Register is posted, unless they have been certified and employed as a full-time Police Officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement AND shall have at least 60 college credit hours from an accredited College or University OR military service with an honorable discharge OR has been certified as a full-time Police Officer by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board.
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• P.O.W.E.R. Card: PLEASE NOTE UPDATE: A P.O.W.E.R. Card is not required to test. You must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card issued within one year prior to the date of hire. (NIPSTA, Triton, Joliet Jr. College).
• Residence:  At this time there is no established residency requirement.
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.

There is a $30.00 non-refundable application fee.  Applications are NOT available at the Glenwood Police Department or Village Hall.
