Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Bellwood is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Police Officer.

Testing is being conducted to establish an Eligibility List for future hiring needs.

Applications will be limited to the first 150 purchased.

Applications will no longer be available once 150 applications have been purchased.

The Bellwood Police Department’s mission is to promote, preserve and deliver a sense of security, safety and quality services to all members of the community and those who pass within their borders.  The Police Department is divided into four divisions:  Operations/Patrol, Investigative, Service and Community Policing.

The Village of Bellwood offers both residents and visitors an excellent infrastructure, a low crime rate, easy access via highways, streets and public transportation to one of the nation’s most thriving metropolitan areas.  Among its many other attributes, this close-knit community has a long tradition of collaborating and networking to develop and execute special events, programs and initiatives that make Bellwood a great place to be just outside of Chicago.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (8/26/20). Must be under the age of 35 years on 8/26/2020 and when final eligibility register is posted unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10 – 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a certified full-time Police Officer for a municipality in the U.S.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Residence:  At this time there is no stated requirements for residency declared by the Village of Bellwood.
