Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Oak Forest is now accepting applications for the position of Firefighter.

Testing is being conducted for anticipated hiring needs and to establish an Eligibility List for future available positions.

The Oak Forest Fire Department provides 24-hour fire protection, paramedic service, and emergency response to the residents and businesses of Oak Forest. The department was founded in 1945 and has provided excellent public service through its existence.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain a Class B Non-CDL License in Illinois, or the equivalent in the state of residence, upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years at the time of application (10/7/20). Must be under 35 years old at the time of testing (10/23/20) AND at such time as the final eligibility register is posted, unless they have been certified as a full-time Firefighter in the United States, or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Certifications and Training:  MUST be Certified or licensed by the State of Illinois as a Basic Operations Firefighter or Equivalent (FF2) by the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office at the time of application and MUST be a certified Paramedic at the time of hire.
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Residence:  At this time there are no stated requirements for residency declared by the City of Oak Forest
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.
• CPAT Card: Must Possess a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certification with Ladder Climb Exercise at the time of application, MUST have been issued between the dates of 10/7/19 and 10/7/20.

There is a $35.00 non-refundable application fee.  Applications are NOT available at the Oak Forest Fire Department or City Hall.
