Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Riverdale is now accepting applications for the position of: Firefighter

Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire multiple new Firefighters and to establish a new Eligibility List for future hiring needs.

The Mission Statement of the Riverdale Fire Department:

It is the mission of the Riverdale Fire Department to preserve life and property through fire suppression, emergency medical response, fire prevention and public education to promote public safety and community support.  The Riverdale Fire Department embraces public service and will be recognized as a leader who responds effectively with well-trained and compassionate professionals.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement: Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (10/7/20). Applicants must be under the age of 35 at the date of testing (10/24/20) and at such time as the Final Eligibility List is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides in part that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois.
• Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Residence: Firefighters must reside in the State of Illinois and within a 30-mile radius of the Village of Riverdale.
• Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing
• Certifications: Must possess a valid Paramedic License (EMT-P) Issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and possess an OSFM Firefighter II Certification or Basic Operations Firefighter Certification at time of employment.
• CPAT Card with Ladder Climb:  Applicants must possess a CPAT Card with Ladder Climb at time of employment.
