Position Details

The Village of Mundelein is seeking qualified telecommunicator applicants for immediate hire within our multi-jurisdiction dispatch center.  The dispatch center provides full police/fire/EMS dispatch services for three Lake County communities.  The dispatch center is operated from the Mundelein Police Department, which is a C.A.L.E.A. Accredited agency.

Requirements:

• A high school degree or equivalent is required
• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including L.E.A.D.S. & EMD
• Two years related experience is preferred
• Must be willing to work twelve hours shifts, weekends, and holidays
• Must remain calm in emergency situations

Essential Functions:

• Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services.
• Enter, update, and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems including a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD).
• Monitor multiple public safety radio frequencies.

Additional duties include:

• Monitoring dispatch equipment and systems
• Researching computer records, updating, and maintaining computer files and databases
• Answering routine questions and completing general office duties 

Selection Process:

Prospective interviewees must first pass a job-related skills assessment.  The assessment covers multi-task split-ear abilities, listening skills, information recall, audio/visual coordination, ability to record critical data and memory retention.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation, drug screen and psychological evaluation.
