Description:

The Truck Enforcement Officer performs a full range of inspection and enforcement activities. Positions in this job family are assigned responsibility for the enforcement of state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to motor carrier operations, motor vehicle license and registration, and motor fuel taxes and fees. This includes monitoring and inspecting motor carriers for required permits, licenses, registration or decals, issuing warnings or citations, impounding vehicles or determining other appropriate actions against violators.

Duties are accomplished through the operation of a motor vehicle weigh station or patrolling state roads and highways. They inspect truck stops, wash pits, oil well sites, and other areas to identify unauthorized disposal or dumping of deleterious substances and will respond to complaints about such actions. Work is typically performed either at a weigh station or on road patrol. Alternatively, the officer may be assigned to a specialized unit in the headquarters office or at a field location.

Required Education and Experience:

• Certified Truck Enforcement Officer Required 

Qualifications:

• Be a citizen of the United States
• Be twenty-one (21) years of age or more at the time of application
• Have a High School Diploma (or its equivalent)
• Possess a valid Illinois Driver's License
• Be of good moral character and capable of performing the duties of a sworn officer of the State of Illinois
• Not have been convicted of any felony or crimes of moral turpitude
• Must possess a satisfactory driving record
• Be free from the use of illegal drugs
• Willingness to submit to a thorough background investigation designed to measure the applicant's suitability for police work
