Position Details

The City of Bloomington is seeking a Telecommunicator in the Police Department.

This position performs specialized work in emergency (i.e. E 911) and non-emergency communications, including screening, receiving, prioritizing and dispatching 911 and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, and EMS services. Receives incoming calls for assistance and determines which resources to allocate to caller needs.

Education/Experience:

• Graduation from high school or GED, including or supplemented by courses in computer applications and legal record keeping
• Experience in general office work with experience in criminal justice and emergency services dispatching preferred
• Or any equivalent combination of training and experience

Certifications/Licenses:

• Must obtain and maintain required certifications including LEADS certification.
• Medical Priority Certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
• Telecommunicator certifications for Public Safety, Fire, and EMS Dispatch; and certification in New World CAD system, obtaining all certifications within first 60 days of training phase of the job.
