The City of DeKalb is testing and accepting applications for Firefighter/Paramedic to establish an eligibility list.
DeKalb is located in a university community and the Fire Department serves a population of approximately 16,000 students and 42,600 residents. The Department has an ISO Rating of 2 with a primary response area of 15 square miles and serves an additional 40 square miles by contract to the DeKalb Fire Protection District. In 2020, the DeKalb Fire Department responded to 6,288 requests for emergency service of which 80% were medical calls. The Fire Department is comprised of 52 full-time sworn employees including 2 Administrative Chiefs and 1 civilian employee.
